Vol. 1 Chapter 0.1 - Prologue

Prologue –”World”

“Listen, ‘Business’ is a tool to redraw the world.”

That was the first thing I was taught.

This was when I was just a little kid who didn’t know anything about the workings of society, when I still lamented the injustice of the world.

“Common sense, values, laws, and morals. All the things that form the ‘world’ we know might seem to be absolutely indissoluble, but that’s not true. Changing times, technological advances, and shit tons of other factors determine how it is,” the man continued.

His face was covered with an unruly beard, his skin was tanned, and his body was huge. And his eyes, his eyes were sharp and shining. He looked more like a bear hunter than the president of some great company.

“You know, there used to be a time that your phone might have no signal.”

“And look at now. You can get the internet on the top of Mount Everest, in a tribal village deep in the Amazon, or in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

You can now never lose track of where you are. People are now all connected by social networks.

This is the “world” we have created. In modern day, the most potential to change the world, the power to negotiate with the world—-

That’s ‘business’”

I couldn’t understand half of what he said back then.

But strange enough, his words instantly took me away.

“What it all comes down to,” he said, “If you don’t like the way the world is now, you can make it the way you want it. If that’s what you want, I’ll teach you how to do it—how to do business.”

He wasn’t talking to a child back then, but as a potential partner. I was his business partner. At that moment, I stopped being an abandoned eight year old kid. That was how I, Makoto Sei, became a business person with high expectations.

“Just so you know, I won’t babysit you. Your quick thinking, sharp instincts, and your guts. That’s why I’m investing in you. And I’ll also use you as a billboard for our social contribution. That will make the shareholders shut up.”

And that expectation was synonymous with the expectation of an equal “business partner.”

“There’s no other way to call this but a win-win. Well, the road ahead is long, do we have a deal?”

He held out his hand—

“Hmph, I don’t know whoever thinks this, but that’s what we do when a contract is concluded,” he explained.

I shook that hand without hesitation.

His words were right.

From the moment I decided to go into business—

My “world” had been definitely redrawn.
